Dallas Rhinoplasty Specialist

Dallas rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Steven White is recognized as being one of the best plastic surgeons in the country as the result of his extensive training and experience, his commitment to patient safety and his ability to provide patients with a natural appearing post-procedural result.

As with any plastic surgery, it is important to ensure that your surgeon is highly qualified to perform rhinoplasty. Dallas physician Dr. White has been certified by two member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). The first of these member boards is the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABSP). The second member board is the American Board of Otolaryngology.

They are many reasons why individuals may choose to undergo this procedure. Potential Dallas rhinoplasty patients may have aesthetic reasons, to reverse the effects of a previous injury or to correct an airway obstruction.

During your initial consultation, Dallas rhinoplasty specialist Dr. White will examine the structures within your nose, the quality of your nose’s skin, the size and shape of your nose and your medical history to determine whether or not you are a candidate for a rhinoplasty. Dallas residents may also be provided with alternative procedures by Dr. White. These alternatives include chin surgery, a turbinectomy or a septoplasty.

General anesthesia is often administered to patients undergoing rhinoplasty. However, local anesthesia in conjunction with an intravenous sedative may also be used. In either event, Dr. White makes use of an anesthesiologist (i.e., a M.D.) to administer the anesthesia as opposed to a nurse or technician trained in the application of anesthesia.

Depending on a number of factors, Dr. White may make the incision inside the nostrils or across the exterior region between the nostrils. Along with sculpting the cartilage, he may also reshape/reposition the bones within your nose and/or use cartilage taken from your nose or elsewhere on your body to build up certain nasal regions.

Following the operation, any discomfort that you experience will be controlled with medication. You may have a splint placed across the bridge of your nose, a splint placed within your nostrils and a bandage across the tip of your nose.

Dr. White will encourage you to schedule frequent follow-up visits so that he may track your progress. He will meet with you personally, during these follow-up visits, as opposed to having a nurse examine you.

Bleeding and stuffiness may occur on the first day. You should also refrain from being active and should rest keeping your head elevated during the first day.

Usually sometime during the first 10 days following the operation, the bruising will start decreasing while the swelling will reach a maximum. The stitches and splints will be removed and you will be permitted to wear makeup during this timeframe. Also, you’ll be allowed to return to a non-strenuous job during the first 10 days.

You may return to the majority of your normal routine, including exercising, after several weeks. The swelling will have diminished and you may begin wearing eyeglasses at this time. Numbness will have also decreased, but it may take several months before full sensation has returned.

The cosmetic changes will begin becoming noticeable weeks after the operation, but it may be several months before the healing and the final results are complete.
